The Story of 4Motion Skatepark

4Motion Skatepark in Darlington has grown from a community idea into one of the North East’s best indoor action sports hubs.

4Motion was formed as a community group in June 2012 by parents whose children had previously taken part in bike coaching at the West Park Bike Track. They wanted to restart the sessions, secure funding and volunteers, and soon began exploring the idea of creating an indoor skatepark.

When Darlington Gymnastics were also looking for a new home, both groups came together to search for a suitable building. This led to the creation of 4Motion Darlington, which became a limited guarantee company in April 2013 and a registered charity in July 2013.

Throughout 2013, countless volunteer hours were spent designing the park and securing loans for the build. Finally, on 29 March 2014, the skatepark opened its doors in a warehouse on Faverdale Industrial Estate. With a mix of street and park sections it quickly became a hub for skateboarding, scooters, BMX and inline skating.

More than just ramps, 4Motion reinvests in the local community, offering coaching, outreach projects, and sessions for all ages and abilities. With all-weather indoor riding, it has become a safe, welcoming and inspiring venue.

At its heart, 4Motion remains true to its mission: to inspire creativity, confidence and community through action sports.
